Welcome to Transition Breath's September 2021 update.
It's a bumpy start to spring this year. Spring time energy usually calls us from our winter caves, providing with new vibrant energy to reconnect with the external world. Alas, we have that spring time energy right now, but for many of us, we're navigating it from the confines of our homes. It's hard.
Naturally, I cannot fully comprehend the hardship being experienced by many of you right now. This pandemic is impacting us all in varied ways - privilege, luck, race, social and economic inequalities, mental health, job (in)security, living situations and locations are all molding very different experiences. To frame a Universal message right now is difficult. One word that captures what is needed right now is compassion - for self and others.
Breathwork is a tool to foster compassion. It's a tool to transcend emotional and physical experiences. It's a tool to pull us out of our mundane experience of life and gain perspective from the other side. When I say other side, it can simply mean the other side of the thinking mind or the other side of our ego. But it can also bring a new understanding of other people's experiences, which is the pathway to compassion.
If you feel called to explore "the other side", that place Beyond the Mind, then I encourage you to join an upcoming online breathwork session scheduled for Thursday, 23 September (6.15pm to 8.15pm). Unknowingly, I scheduled it on the Spring Equinox so this is a natural time for ceremony and time to dust off the winter residue and invite in the spring-time charms.
What I really love about this breathwork session is its tiered exchange rates based on your individual circumstances, and that all proceeds will go to OzHarvest and The Sound Life. OzHarvest provides food to some of our most disadvantaged members of our community right now, who need all the support they can get. As for The Sound Life, I just love what they do, which is to bring music, love and joy to those who are sick and unwell across hospitals and other areas of need.
I hope to see you on 23 Septebmer, and if not, then another time.
Big love,
Josh
ps. I'm still running online individual breathwork sessions, which are just as effective as in-person sessions. Remember, your breath is everywhere, not just in the therapy room. Also, I've been running online workplace programs, including 45-minute online conscious breathing sessions. If your workplace or community group is looking for creative ways to support mental and emotional well-being, then please reach out.
